The new name replaced Crossair atop the corporate headquarters in the northwestern city, a company statement said. Crossair, a former subsidiary of the defunct Swissair, has been operating the replacement national carrier since the end of March. Airliners will continue to carry the brand name Swiss. Originally the formal name was to be Swiss Air Lines Ltd., but the executive board decided in April to insert "international" for legal reasons. The estate administrator of Swissair Group AG has objected to the use of Swiss and Swiss Air Lines because they believe Crossair's use of the names infringes on the group's trademark rights. In announcing plans for the change, Crossair said in a statement last April that although the board agreed that 'Swiss Air Lines Ltd.' was a legal name, it wanted to avoid the possibility future litigation. The company added that the word 'international' "underlines the global role of Swiss." =20 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright 2002 AP
