How could you NOT like this attitude? ------ Press Release SOURCE: WestJet WestJet News Release: Ridiculous Fares, Ridiculous Fees CALGARY, ALBERTA--In an ongoing quest to keep the public informed of the rising taxes and fees associated with air travel, WestJet today launched a ridiculous $3 one way fare for seats between Calgary and Edmonton and between Hamilton and Ottawa for travel on Sunday June 30, 2002. However, despite the airline's ongoing battle for the reduction of taxes and fees, customers will need to pay all of the ridiculous taxes and fees for travel on these flights. WestJet will then forward these taxes and fees to the appropriate agencies. WestJet's Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Bill Lamberton, said today: "We continue to hear from our guests their frustrations over the ridiculous rise in taxes and fees associated with air travel. By offering this ridiculous $3 one way fare, we want to clearly show the impact these extra charges have on the wallets of Canadians. As the majority of these taxes are collected on a flat rate basis, guests paying low fares and flying short distances are disproportionately impacted. During the $3 one way Seat Sale, a Calgary/Edmonton return ticket on WestJet with a $6 return price actually costs the guest $89.27. A Hamilton/Ottawa return ticket actually costs the guest $81.78. "And while WestJet does not add a fuel surcharge, on airlines that charge a fuel surcharge the final price might be another $30. These ridiculous taxes and fees charged to customers are discouraging people from choosing air travel as a mode of transportation on the ultra-short haul routes, and we hope Canadians will join us to voice their opinion on this situation." To take advantage of these ridiculous $3 one way fares, (plus all ridiculous applicable charges and fees) guests must book between now and midnight MDT on Friday June 21, 2002. Guests can book by calling WestJet at 1-800-538-5696 or save a ridiculous $2.50 each way by booking online at www.westjet.com. WestJet serves the 22 Canadian cities of Victoria, Comox, Vancouver, Abbotsford/Fraser Valley, Prince George, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Thompson, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, London, Ottawa, Hamilton, Toronto, and Moncton. WestJet currently operates a fleet of 30 Boeing 737 aircraft, featuring five state-of-the-art Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft.
