Could be I'm wrong again.  it wouldn't be the first and definitely won't be
the last.  I was under the assumption IATA was the International Airline
Transport Association.  Didn't think we had to many international airlines
then.  I assumed it was a member (airline) organization thta lobbied for the
airlines internationally.

Don't forget the UN was a quasi replacement for the League of Nations.
I was taught in school that ICAO came into existence to standardize aviation
worldwide.
