American Will Begin Los Angeles - Tokyo Service on April 1, 2003

LOS ANGELES, May 31 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines, which is in the midst
of a $270 million renovation to its Terminal 4 facility at Los Angeles
International Airport, today announced that it will introduce daily nonstop
service between LAX and Tokyo on April 1, 2003.

The new service, which requires government approvals, will be the second new
service to Tokyo announced by American this year. The world's largest
airline began flying nonstop to Japan's capital city from New York's JFK
International Airport in April. American also provides daily service to
Tokyo from its hubs in Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth as well as from San
Jose in California's Silicon Valley.

All flights are flown with three-class, 223-seat Boeing 777s, American's
newest and longest-range international aircraft.
