EWR Ramp Control Tower floods, opening is delayed The opening of CO's new Ramp Control Tower at EWR, originally scheduled for June, is expected to be delayed following an incident in which some of the facility's electrical equipment was damaged. A contractor working in the tower on April 25 opened a valve that was not closed off on the other end, flooding the tower and causing damage to telephone and radio equipment. CO currently is assessing the water damage; the opening of the tower will be delayed until replacement equipment has been procured. The tower, referred to as the Newark Operations Coordination Center (NOCC), is situated between Concourses 1 and 2 and will serve as the information and control center for all ramp activities at EWR. It is designed to provide a direct view and better coordination of the hub's operations, and includes administrative offices, an incident command center and workstations for approximately 43 employees.
