"This is a significant order from one of the world's most prestigious fl= ag carriers who have committed to Trent power for their future large aircraft fleet," said Mike Terrett, president of civil aerospace at Rolls-Royce. "We're delighted to be extending our long-standing ties with Lufthansa." Rolls-Royce is developing the Trent 900 engine specifically for the A380 superjumbo jet, which Airbus plans to deliver to carriers by 2006. The planes are each expected to carry more than 550 passengers. Lufthansa plans to accept its first A380 in 2007, Rolls-Royce said.
