Sort of true....about the W, because tv/radio stations already acquired the call letters for their use. But there are a few airports that start with W. WRI, WST to name two. All airports in the continental US are designated with a K prefix in the four letter ICAO code. ARTCCs are also prefixed with a K followed by a Z. KZDC, KZMA, KZOB (Cleveland Center)..etc....but like the W, some tv/radio stations have already aquired the K ID before the airport was built or wise enough to secure it. Also I am glad that the US was fortunate enough to be privy of using the IATA codes off the ICAO codes minus the K prefix.
