China defended the captain of the Air China aircraft that crashed in South
Korea last week, saying he was an experienced, well-trained pilot with more
than six-thousand hours flight time in the Boeing 767.

Beijing's defence of the pilot follows media speculation that the crash on
Monday could have been caused by pilot error.

Air China flight CA 129 crashed into a fog-shrouded hillside near the
southern city of Pusan, killing 122 people.

Thirty-eight of the 166 people on board the plane survived and another six
are still missing.

It is still unclear why the Boeing 767-200-ER crashed as it was approaching
Kimhae airport, but South Korean and Chinese media have been circulating
various theories, some pointing to pilot error.

The official Xinhua news agency has issued a detailed background report on
pilot Wu Xinlu, who survived the crash, saying he was respected and admired
by his colleagues and looked sharp in uniform.

Don't fly if the captain's uniform isn't well-pressed!
