Re: Airline Travel Agent Commissions

Do the airlines consider travel agents "sales agents" or "Handling agents"?

A sales agent would get together a group of companys or travelers and sell
them on a particular carrier -- Damn right that carrier will pay you a
commission. They will sell you tkts at a 'net-wholesale price' and you can
resell them for whatever you can get.

A handling agent would issue tkts to save the airline the trouble and cost of
doings this but seems that the internet and E-Tkts are kinda doing away with
the need for travel agents to do reservations and ticketing. In a very few
years that function wont really exist.

The business is really changing and the agents are gonna have to adapt and
change their business. If the agt puts together a group of 10 or 15 people,
a family reunion or what ever and calls the carrier--he will make money on
the deal for sure, but hes gonna have to work.
