Traffic on North Atlantic routes was down 7.7 percent in February compared with the level a year earlier. That, however, was an improvement over October's year-to-year decline of 31.3 percent. British Airways reported a 20 percent drop in traffic volume in the fourth quarter. It said its February traffic volume - measured in the distance flown by paying customers - was down 2.5 percent from a year earlier. In January, the figure was a decline of nearly 7 percent. Traffic figures for American routes were 3.5 percent lower in February, and 8 percent lower a month earlier, the airline said. A spokeswoman for American Airlines, a unit of the AMR Corporation (news/quote), said the carrier would soon announce a return to its pre-Sept. 11 schedule. http://www.nytimes.com/2002/03/19/business/19BRIT.html?ex=1017555462&ei=1&en=9449dfe6b9da477e HOW TO ADVERTISE --------------------------------- For information on advertising in e-mail newsletters or other creative advertising opportunities with The New York Times on the Web, please contact onlinesales@nytimes.com or visit our online media kit at http://www.nytimes.com/adinfo For general information about NYTimes.com, write to help@nytimes.com.
