I've seen the flag reversed quite a bit lately (on all manner of
things), David, and have wondered about it myself. I've been told it is
a tribute to September 11th, and while this does make some sense, I have
not confirmed it.

This series of photos shows Hawaiian's 4th 767 getting its registration
changed from D-AMUP to N583HA:

A couple of interesting things I noticed...

1.  The US flag is reversed.  Why?

2.  There's a space between the N and 580HA.  Hawaiian seems to be
having trouble with 767 regs; first there were photos of N-580HA (now
lacking the -), and now this...
