if that's your reasoning, i would applaud UA for making the quick effort to
get your bag to your plane prior to departure. they could have held it for a
later flight.

That doesn't make much sense either. It was a regular, normal flying day
except I changed my routing before even checking in.

I have a luggage receipt showing the exact routing it actually took in
the end...

It's like the bag came off the plane in Chicago and it fell on the
ground, and they found it much later, and 'rushed' it to get it on the
plane.

I specifically took the ORD routing to ensure my bag would have enough
time to transfer... It's not so comforting to know that it nearly didn't
make it.
