ACs 3xxx flight numbers

I still have an old question from a while back.

AC used to use 3xxx flight numbers to indicate flights operated by CP
planes and crews.

... and for the most part, they still do.

But it's not always consistent, and I'm wondering if there is a simple
explanation.

I.e.

YYZ-YUL - AC 402 0800-0911 - Airbus 321
YYZ-YUL - AC3404 0900-1011 - Airbus 321

Clearly the 321 is not an old CP inheriteted bird.

Anyone have any idea?
