Airborne's Chief to Retire

February 6, 2002

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SEATTLE, Feb. 5 (AP) - Airborne, the holding company of
Airborne Express, which has been struggling financially in
recent years, announced today that its chief executive was
retiring, effective immediately.

The executive, Robert S. Cline, will be succeeded by
Carlton D. Donaway, Airborne's president and chief
operating officer, the company said. Mr. Cline will retire
as chairman on April 30, along with Robert G. Brazier, the
vice chairman.

Mr. Cline said in the company's announcement, "It's quite
clear that the values that have made Airborne successful
for more than a half-century are not about to change."
