PHOENIX, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Pilots at America West Airlines Wednesday called for resumed talks over a new contract after the carrier committed to controlling labor costs as a condition for receiving federal loan guarantees. The pilots said the request comes after America West, a unit of America West Holdings (AWA) was granted $380 million in loan guarantees partly on the condition it would control cost growth. The Air Line Pilots Association, which represents the America West pilots, said the conditions imposed on the airline could interfere with the collective bargaining rights of its pilots. In December, America West was granted conditional approval for the loan program as part of the Bush administration's $15 billion bailout package for the industry. The Air Transportation Stabilization Board, which approves applications, also called on America West to offer warrants for 33 percent of its common stock as compensation.
