After reading Mr. Liao's trip report on The Airline List when the wanna be enforcement personnel 'yelled' over to him that photography is not allowed, I got to contemplating again about writing the FAA to get an official response. This is about the fith time I have heard such nonsense. On Monday, I will be sending a letter to the FAA in Washington, D.C.; most likely to the "security division". I too would like to get an answer in writing. No where in FAR 107 or 108 does it mention that photography is not allowed. When I receive this letter stating photography is allowed, I will carry it (and copies) with me for presentation to the idiots that approach me with the opposite. Also, I will be having business cards produced, and either on the front or back if more room is needed, I will have a reference to a point of contact at the FAA for immediate confirmation. If I am approached by one of these idiots, I will present to him/her a copy of the applicable FAR 107/108 and present him/her with the business card and state something to the effect of, "please feel free to contact the FAA at this number".
