American airlines report sharp drop in passengers Last Updated Mon Jan 7 16:00:54 2002 WASHINGTON - Three of the largest airlines in the United States saw a sharp drop in passengers last month compared with a year earlier. United Airlines passenger volume for December declined by 18 per cent from the same month in 2000. Passenger demand at Delta Air Lines fell by 10 per cent and Northwest Airlines was down by 11 per cent. While passenger traffic remains sharply lower than a year ago, the U.S. airline industry has shown month-to-month improvement since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. By comparison passenger levels were down by 32 per cent in September.
