(BBDb) regional jets which will be part of Mesa's operations with America West Airlines. Earlier this year, Mesa made a firm order for 40 aircraft in Bombardier's 64-seat CRJ-700 and 84-seat CRJ-900 series, an order valued at about $1.2 billion. Mesa said the deal reflected its confidence in the small jet program at America West, a unit of America West Holdings (AWA). The Bush administration recently granted America West about $380 million in loan guarantees as part of its industry bailout program. The airline had warned it could face bankruptcy without further assistance. Mesa shares gained 28 cents, or 3.5 percent, to $8.382 during Thursday trading on the Nasdaq. ©2001 Reuters Limited.
