It is in the works and I expect over time people will in general get over their squeamishness about the concept when they realize it is the only way people can be screened properly. Think about it: Shoe, pocket, waist wrap, whatever. Now that it has been shown that people will try to sneak on non-metallic weapons what is being done? Checking shoes only? A BS halfhearted effort that should be an insult to everyone.
