BWIA/Liat take off in new alliance (Trinidad Guardian) Two regional airlines, BWIA and LIAT will be joining forces to offer passengers from outside the region seamless travel between Caribbean destinations. A press release from BWIA yesterday stated the alliance will be formally announced on January 8 in Barbados. The two airlines together service a number of destinations throughout the region. But BWIA's chief executive officer Conrad Aleong said through the release that travellers from outside the region have difficulty making smooth connections to their final destinations in the Caribbean. The new alliance is meant to minimise those difficulties and allow passengers to reach their destinations as though they are travelling on one airline. LIAT's Caribbean passengers will also have access to international destinations through BWIA hubs in Trinidad, Barbados and Antigua. LIAT's CEO Garry Cullen said the move is essential to the development of the region. "The entire region will benefit from the efficiencies that are being created today," he said.
