Crossair Expects More Jet Seizures

December 15, 2001

By BLOOMBERG NEWS

BASEL, Switzerland, Dec. 14 (Bloomberg News) - Crossair
A.G., the airline that is taking over part of the Swissair
Group, expects Thursday's seizure of a plane in France to
be the first of many by former Swissair partners trying to
recover debts.

French authorities are holding an Embraer (news/quote) 145
that had flown from Geneva to Nice. The seizure was at the
request of Air Liberté, which is seeking $55 million owed
by Swissair. Such actions are likely "over the next few
years," a Crossair spokeswoman, Diane Müller, said.

The Swiss government and most prominent Swiss companies are
investing 4.2 billion Swiss francs ($2.6 billion) to rescue
as much as two-thirds of Swissair by transferring the fleet
to Crossair, Europe's biggest regional carrier. The plan's
success hinges on Crossair's ability to win back customers
following Swissair's collapse in October.

"For us, the consequences are enormous," Ms. Müller said.
"It makes us unreliable. It really jeopardizes the future
of the airline."

Crossair expects the plane to be released after a meeting
with a French judge this evening. Services to France and
other destinations are unaffected by the plane's grounding,
she said.

Swissair filed for bankruptcy protection in October,
leaving debts of 17 billion francs.
