French authorities are holding an Embraer (news/quote) 145 that had flown from Geneva to Nice. The seizure was at the request of Air Liberté, which is seeking $55 million owed by Swissair. Such actions are likely "over the next few years," a Crossair spokeswoman, Diane Müller, said. The Swiss government and most prominent Swiss companies are investing 4.2 billion Swiss francs ($2.6 billion) to rescue as much as two-thirds of Swissair by transferring the fleet to Crossair, Europe's biggest regional carrier. The plan's success hinges on Crossair's ability to win back customers following Swissair's collapse in October. "For us, the consequences are enormous," Ms. Müller said. "It makes us unreliable. It really jeopardizes the future of the airline." Crossair expects the plane to be released after a meeting with a French judge this evening. Services to France and other destinations are unaffected by the plane's grounding, she said. Swissair filed for bankruptcy protection in October, leaving debts of 17 billion francs. http://www.nytimes.com/2001/12/15/business/worldbusiness/15CROS.html?ex=1009436355&ei=1&en=c4334027ff79385f HOW TO ADVERTISE --------------------------------- For information on advertising in e-mail newsletters or other creative advertising opportunities with The New York Times on the Web, please contact Alyson Racer at alyson@nytimes.com or visit our online media kit at http://www.nytimes.com/adinfo For general information about NYTimes.com, write to help@nytimes.com.
