The DC10-40 is a DC10-20, which was the P&W version only ordered by JAL
and Northwest. However Northwest wanted its mark number to be superior
to the -30 so Douglas made it the -40. And yes the intake was slightly
bigger as per the MD11 for the P&W engine...Best Geoffrey Thomas

Hello List Members and Happy Holidays,

Is a DC-10-40 a re-engined DC-10-30?

Didn't the -40 infact have that duck tail similar to the one on the rear
of
an MD-11?

The reason why I ask is because in this Great Airliners Series books
offered
by Airliners magazine, the Volume featuring the DC-10 talks very little,
I
mean very little about the -40 and is absent of any -40 pictures. In
the
list of all production DC-10s it lists the -40s, but why no pictures?

Thanks to all, again Happy Holidays.
