That would require auditing all of Autoconf, and all the macros in Gnulib and/or whereever else you get your macros from, so that the shell scripts generated are safe to use with those options enabled. This would be a useful project for someone to do, although it would take some time and of course it should be optional (so we don't break existing scripts). Is that something you have the time for?
