--site option

My generated configure script recognises a --site option:

  -site | --site | --sit)
    ac_prev=site ;;
  -site=* | --site=* | --sit=*)
    site=$ac_optarg ;;

However, $site is never referred to. What's the purpose of this? Is
it meant to be a command line analogue for the CONFIG_SITE environment
variable?

Cheers, Ben
