Did you also fix the quoting in the other AC_ARG_WITH:
AC_ARG_WITH([valgrind],
AS_HELP_STRING([--with-valgrind],
[Enable Valgrind annotations (small runtime overhead, default NO)]))
In particular, since that version outputs a comma, it could very well be
the source of the problem if it is not quoted as:
AC_ARG_WITH([valgrind],
[AS_HELP_STRING([--with-valgrind],
[Enable Valgrind annotations (small runtime overhead, default NO)])])
