I would like to point you to the new MPI macros
"AX_PROG_{CC,CXX,FC,F77}_MPI". If you want to build your whole program
using the MPI compiler, you should rather use these than the old
A(C)X_MPI macro, as they are more reliable on unusual architectures.
I think that they will also solve your problem.
