Technically, but I know the answer to that one :) Because autopoint
didn't run to completion, it didn't install any of gettext's .m4 files.
So when aclocal went to go looking for macros, including
AM_GNU_GETTEXT, it couldn't find any .m4 files that contained them. Fix
the first error, and the second one will go away automatically.
but gettext.m4 is installed (in /usr/share/aclocal).
