The only fallback I see so far is to get back to some old contacts that were providing access to one of their machines - usually in remote places. But my experiences did show that it is quite PITA - not for least that everytime they reinstall the machine they forget about any ssh key given by external partners plus you can't quite be sure what's on the machine the next day.
