This does not look like an automake issue.  I have removed that
mailing list address from the distribution list.

The 'configure' script should be creating a 'config.log' file as
output.  Look there and it should show more details about what is
going wrong.

As to what could make everything show up as empty or zero I can't
really guess at the moment.  Is your disk full?  Something
catastrophically bad is happening and it is causing things to
completely fail.
