Try looking into the -n32 and -64 (I think -64 works) on your system.
(Look at the man page for the compiler.) Also try to see what version of
libz your compiler is looking for. We have these types of problems all
the time. Your LD_LIBRARY_PATH might have to come into play or you may
have to specify the correct libz to use as one of your configure flags.
