I am not sure what this means - the pkg you have is just a src rpm.
You still need to build it.
First, if a new message is related to a previous one, then can you
please reply to the appropriate message in the previous thread you made
{trimming any irrelevant info}. This means that threaded email readers
{that most list readers use}, will be able to automatically list the
newer message with the old thread.
I do have file I downloaded with the src called yum-2.6.0.tar.gz. I
know this is a zipped file
gzipped infact.
but not sure how it is associated with the
src file.
It isn't. It's the other way around:
A .src.rpm contains the original source code {eg the .tar.gz}, along
with any patches or other needed files, and a .spec file. A src.rpm can
be used to rebuild a package to suit a particular system or achitecture.
The output is a binary .rpm
The .spec file is used by rpmbuild to create binary rpm packages eg
yum-2.6.0.rpm.
Sorry about these questions, I am a Wintel SA, I am use to double
clicking on the exe file to install software.
In a distribution based on rpm, the install software {ie pre-built
software including the executables, configs and disk layout} is inside a
binary .rpm. On an rpm system with a GUI rpm package manager, you can
just click the binary .rpm file to invoke the package manager.
So the question is: are you making this harder for yourself than needs
to be ?
What distribution are you using ?
