Solved, by tracing dependencies of yum, yum-metadata-parser, I ended
up removing yum-updatesd b/c it had a yum-3.0.5 dependency and
updating yum-metadata-parser, yum, and yum-fastest-mirror  which fixed
my yum dependency mis-matches and all seems to be working now.

Seth, thanks for pointing me in the right direction of the yum-meta-data-parser
