[Yum] Proxy settings are ignored - needs working dns - possible solution

Same problem here after an update of FC4 (glibc 2.3.6-3) : 

yum and wget are not working anymore (but firefox, gftp do)...

I tried to update the whole system to to fedora core 5 (which include
glibc 2.4-4) and the problem persists.
