[Yum] python-elementtree for RHEL3 ?

We've got yum 2.2 working with RHEL3 just fine. I'm trying to take us
to yum 2.4.2 on RHEL3, but have run into a snag: python-elementtree. It
is an architecture specific package, and on RHEL3 x86 I have no problems
finding (or compiling) python-elementtree. However, I can't find or
compile a 64bit version for RHEL3 x86_64.

It looks like Dag has had similar problems too:
http://dag.wieers.com/packages/python-elementtree/

Does anyone know a solution to getting python-elementtree to compile on
RHEL3 (python 2.2 based) x86_64?

Thanks,
