[Yum] Revert to older Fedora-Release with yum?

Hi List,
 
What does yum check to populate the $release, etc. variables in the yum.conf files? Unfortunately I applied a fedora-release-3 when I should have applied fedora-release-2 rpm, and it won't roll back.
 
Any ideas?
