Greetings, Yum seems to be running rather slow and using excessive amounts of cpu and ram. ### Here's the start of the session ### [root@osage etc]# date ; yum install ethereal Tue Jan 13 14:58:47 EST 2004 Gathering header information file(s) from server(s) Server: Mandrake Linux 9.2 - Base Server: Mandrake Linux 9.2 - Contribs Server: Mandrake Linux 9.2 - Updates Finding updated packages Downloading needed headers Resolving dependencies .. ### Here's what 'top' reports 30 minutes later ### top - 15:30:15 up 1 day, 3:28, 11 users, load average: 1.23, 1.38, 1.76 PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 28146 root 15 0 215m 215m 3896 R 83.0 57.1 18:00.92 yum I'm not particularly concerned about the %CPU usage, but the 18:00.92 minutes of cpu time and 215m of ram usage seem just a tad bit high. I'm running yum-2.0.4 from the yum-20040103 snapshot on a 500mhz PIII with Mandrake 9.2 installed. "du /var/cache/yum" reports 55M of files (headers, etc). "wc -l /var/cache/yum/*info" indicates I have 6681 package headers. Anything else I can tell you?
