Wow, I'm very dumb I pushed out the wrong tarball a few minutes ago. It's fixed now, and a change I had made to add enablegroups=0|1 to repository sections of the yum.conf was included. so now if you don't want groups considered for any given repository just set enablegroups=0 in it's stanza - the default is to enable them. same location - files just changed. Sorry for the mess.
