[Yum] username & password proxy support?

I went through the mailinglist and saw some mentions about a problem
with httplib.py. I couldn't figure out what the status was with this
problem. I'm trying to use yum through a proxy server that requires a
username and password and the prescribed approach:
http_proxy=http://username:password@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:<port> didn't work
for me.
