George- Try downloading the file separately using either wget or your favorite web browser and running rpm -V -p kernel-source-2.4.20-20.7.i386.rpm I had some issues with a machine unable to download and install fairly large rpms (matlab), and it turned out the problem was a bad hardware (one of the dimms was shot).
