oh - I know yum-2.0 works on 8 with rpm 4.1.1 - the question was whether
or not the byte-compiled modules built on 9 were compatible with the
python on 8.0.

So let me be more clear.

if you build rpm 4.1.1 on 7.3 and install it then yes, you should be
able to run yum-2.0 on 7.3.

7.1 and 7.2 need better python2's and libxml2 iirc.

I'd also like to note that you do NOT want to go through that pain.

I need to backport some stuff to 1.0.x sometime soon anyway - it's not a
dead branch - but I wouldn't expect all the newest features to reach it
immediately, either.
