well my only concern is that it would be misleading - specifically b/c
the optional pkgs and optional metapkgs don't get installed in a yum
groupinstall command.

However, it might be reasonable to just put a special char next to each
package or group based on it's type

so output something like:

yum grouplist foo

Group: foo
Groups:
 Somemandatorygroup *
 somedefaultgroup/metapkg +
 someoptionalgroup/metapkg 
Packages:
 somemandatorypkg *
 somedefaultpkg +
 someoptionalgarbage
