Hey, This is Akshay Shipurkar (akshays), I'm currently completing my final year of Computer Engineering from University of Mumbai.
I was introduced to fedora through DGPLUG (Linux Users' Group Of Durgapur) an organization which teaches and helps students to grow and become up stream contributes.
Although I have recently joined the community, I have been helped by many members of the fedora community and i aspire to work with them to learn and contribute to the greater goal of the fedora community i.e Freedom, Friends, Features, First.

After going through the list of project ideas for this year, I'm interested in two projects
1.Pagure
2.Community Operations (CommOps)

I have starting testing fedora 24 and have planned to test 1 - 2 Builds per week.
From last week when i have joined Fedora Project, I have tested, tagged some packages, Understood how the fedora uses the RSA key to authenticate. Thats because i was not able to git clone using my pagure account for 2days using ssh and one of the member on fedora-admin irc channel helped me to get past the hurdle that was caused by the caching system bug.( review this paragraph again)
I have been trying to get hold of the Pagure system and i know it will take a while to figure out everything.

About Myself
I volunteer as Student Chair of IEEE-DRIEMS student branch.
I'm also part of Mozilla student Ambassador Program.
I also volunteer at Rotaract club of Panvel as Sargant-At-Arms.
I have done internship at Reliance Industries Ltd as summer trainee and at a kleverk a small webdesign company.
I am comfortable with C, C++, Java, Python (i know the basics),HTML/CSS, JavaScript.

I would like to discuss about final project before i submit final proposal. I Hope I am not late. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

Hello there, Akshay, and welcome to the Fedora GSoC 2016 mailing list. We're glad to have you here!

Thanks for reaching out! Awesome to hear that you're involved with local open source communities in your area, like DGPLUG. I've seen a few other Fedora contributors who also mention being involved with that group, so seems like there's a strong presence of Fedora there! Looking at your other things as well, it seems like you have a decent amount of experience in open source too. All the better!

Yes, both Pagure and CommOps ARE listed as GSoC projects. Whether or not we get a slot for them will depend on a couple of things:

1) The number of mentors allocated to the project idea.
2) The number and strength of applicants we have applying for a slot.
3) The number of slots we are awarded by Google.

The best way to ensure that we DO get a slot for it is to follow the procedure described at the bottom of the GSoC organization page.

You've already done an excellent job introducing yourself to the mailing list, so you can scratch that one off the to-do list. Next, I would start frequently idling in the various IRC channels (#fedora-summer-coding and #fedora-apps), and then work with mentors to figure out your next steps. Additionally, there is a post on the Fedora Community Blog that should help answer many of your questions about what to do next.

We look forward to getting to know you! Let us know if you have any further questions.
