Hi, I'm a third year computer engineering undergraduate in department of computer engineering, university of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. I'm very interested to work in open source environment but i didn't got a chance to involve in this foss community. But this summer gave me a chance for it. I am well in HTML/Javascript/CSS, Jquery, AngularJS and Bootstrap as well. and some other python libraries. I'm a foss geek and currently i'm using Gnome.I feel that ican fulfil expected outcomes of this project so I'm very interested to involve in this project in this summer. -- /*Thanks and Regards, */Akila Wickramarachchi
Hi Akila, welcome to the Fedora summer-coding mailing list. :)Thanks for reaching out! Awesome to hear you're wanting to get more heavily involved with FOSS – Google Summer of Code is a great way to do so! Your experience seems like it could be pretty useful in the front-end side of things!
Yes, Cockpit IS listed as a GSoC project. Whether or not we get a slot for it will depend on a couple of things:
1) The number of mentors allocated to the project idea. 2) The number and strength of applicants we have applying for a slot. 3) The number of slots we are awarded by Google. The best way to ensure that we DO get a slot for it is to follow the procedure described at the bottom of the GSoC organization page.
https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/organizations/5630777857409024/You have already introduced yourself to the summer-coding mailing list, so you can check that one off. You can join the various IRC channels (#fedora-summer-coding and #fedora-apps), and then work with mentors to figure out your next steps.
The post on the Fedora Community Blog also does a great job of summing up the next steps too!
