I ran into similar problem on IBM Power while trying to read
vmcore generated against 6.4 kernel.

please wait... (gathering module symbol data)
crash: invalid structure member offset: module_core_size
FILE: kernel.c LINE: 3782 FUNCTION: module_init()

[/usr/bin/crash] error trace: 10895700c => 1085fc754 => 1086b5a18 => 10872e750

With this patch applied I am now able to read the dump using crash.

For what its worth
