Yeah, it's just a bad idea. I ran into it on xenserver, which uses i686 centos 5.2 for the dom0, inexcusably.

In case it's ever useful in identifying this class of broken dump: the issue is that when compiled on ix86, the libxc dump-generating code uses the 32-bit versions of all the xen structures stashed in the elf notes (register file, etc). Which obviously yields nothing useful, and crash fails obscurely when it goes to look for data in the location it would be on a 64-bit guest.
