How are you trying to attach the volume? virt-manager? virsh
attach-device? virsh attach-disk?

If using virt-manager, you could try attaching the volume as a 'Xen
virtual disk' instead of 'SCSI disk'. If using virsh, try specifying
bus='xen' on the device target element, e.g.  <target dev='xvdb'
bus='xen'/>.
