Trailing whitespace.  Run 'make syntax-check' and solve the problems it
points out.

1.0.2 is already released; the soonest this patch can apply is 1.0.3.

I didn't look closely at the rest of the patch, as I assume Laine is
probably the better reviewer for this topic.
