Indeed, having a more-generic attribute "type", where only a subset of known enum values are appropriate per a given hypervisor, makes sense to me. After all, that's how we treated the <clock> addition in 0.8.0; not all HV's support all the <timer name="foo"> timers. That is a bigger rewrite, though, and while we could still complete it in time for 0.8.2, it becomes much tougher to get it complete this week.
