Great for SCSI, not so great for USB sticks:

# hdparm -i /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb:
 HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(identify) failed: Invalid exchange
 HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed: Invalid argument
# echo $?
22
