There's a bug report tracking this:

The packaging issue was since fixed in Fedora, but unfortunately it
has not been backported to EPEL yet.

Do you think there's a chance we could convince the EPEL maintainers
to pick up the very simple patch[1] that makes this unnecessary and
get a working build within a short time?

I'm really not fond of this work around :(
